Let's explorer the darker side of abandonment. These are the urban legends and ghost stories of the places I explore. Dim the lights and open your minds...let's go off the reservation, shall we?
The Long Forgotten Farm:
Henry and Mildred were a happy couple that enjoyed a long life together. Henry was a farmer...Mildred raised their four children. Henry passed in the late 60's...Mildred followed in the early 70's. They died of old age.
The house has been empty since...
Or has it?
Locals tell tales of strange lights and voices emanating from the home...mostly of a female nature. At times, the sounds and headlights of a truck can be seen and heard on the grounds...disappearing into the now wooded farmstead. More ominous is the report that even though most of the windows have been broken out, and holes in the roof for plenty of light to get in...the interior of the home will go completely black, and all sounds of nature go silent. Other than color enhancement, the photo below/left is un-altered. Did I experience this phenomenon?
I haven't visited here at night so I can't account for the other reports. But, my dog Ellie wouldn't go anywhere near this house and barked constantly.

Midwestern Tragedy:
Tom and Jane had two beautiful daughters. They lived a simple life. That all changed in the late 70's. Returning home one day, Jane found their two young daughters dead...drown in the cistern in the basement. Unable to cope, Tom committed suicide. 2 years later, in financial ruin, Jane disappeared...never heard from again.
Because of this, the home sits empty...and has been since Jane's disappearance...
People don't go here at night. Sounds of children playing can be heard, and strange lights appear. A neighbor down the road states that the specter of a distraught woman can be seen running down the driveway. Legend has it, if you go there at night, a panicked woman will come to you seeking help.
Due to the condition of the house, I was unable to explore inside. I found nothing out of the ordinary touring the grounds. Overall it seemed peaceful. But, I could see how this would be a very different place at night.
Strangely enough, a person I spoke with at the town office stated "all public documents pertaining to the property have been lost"...

Are these stories true? They say all legends are based on some shred of truth. The real question is...would you be brave enough to find out for yourself?
